Criminal Cases

Criminal cases present different circumstances to expert witnesses and the generation of expert reports, since the causation of criminal circumstances and consequences thereof are sometimes harrowing and require significant consideration. Fraser George and Associates Limited have been involved in several criminal cases including unfortunate fatal electrocutions, theft of electrical energy and evasion of export controls to present but a few.

Notable criminal cases in which Fraser George have acted are:-

In the Birmingham Crown Court
 – Regina v Hoult

Fraser George acted as Defense expert in the case where prosecution was sought in respect of the accidental, fatal electrocution

of a young woman. During construction of the young woman’s residence, an electrical cable became trapped whilst plasterboard was being affixed to a supporting metal beam. In the circumstance, a metallic screw pierced the cable connecting the ‘live’ wire of the cable to the beam. Some time later, a pool of water from a leaking washing machine, came into contact with the beam and when the young lady knelt in the pool and touched the copper water supply pipe, a fatal burst of electrical energy halted the young woman’s life. On this case the construction foreman, in charge of certifying correct testing of the electrical system of the property, was prosecuted.

In the Central Criminal Court,
Old Bailey,
London
 – Regina v Perkins

Fraser George acted as Defense expert where prosecution was sought in a case where the Defendant was charged with fifteen (15) counts of exporting electronic goods outside of the EC Community without an export license and six (6) counts of fraud. ‬ The case focused on the export control classification of Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) amplifiers, given criteria of ‘Average Output Power’, which according to scientific understanding is ambiguous. Therefore, the defense case centered on the premise that any MMIC amplifier could not be accurately identified for license need purposes.
